WDWで働く～Disney社の最終選考・英文履歴書＆Cover Letter編～

極度の緊張で震える声で受けた面接を乗り越えて、二次選考通過との連絡が届きました。

きたるは最終選考であるDisney社の面接…！

の、前に英文履歴書とCover Letterなるものを提出するようにと連絡がきました。

Cover Letterとは…？？

高校留学時にホストシスターが大学受験の時に書くとうっすら聞いていた程度だったCover Letter。

大学留学や外資への就活をしていなかった為、英文履歴書もCover letterも一体どんなことを書くのやらサッパリ状態から始めることになりました。

英文履歴書は意外と簡単だった…！

英文履歴書はディズニーから送られてきた決まったフォーマットをダウンロードして記入しました。

履歴書の記入することは基本、日本の履歴書に書いていることと同じ。

住所や名前など基本情報がメインでした。

少し違う所は“Personal Interests”を書く欄があるところ。

このプログラムへの応募理由・仕事の志望理由・趣味や特技・受賞歴などを書く欄です。

ちなみに私が書いた応募理由と志望理由の一部を参考までに載せておきます。

This program sounds like my “dream come true”, to be able to combine making people happy and sharing my country’s culture. I feel like everything I’ve done so far is pointing me in this direction–using my English skills, presenting attractive appearance, being able to share intelligently with others.

I’ve been working for ———-, but I want to move on to something with more person-to-person contact and more cultural importance.

※———–は仕事内容なので伏せてあります。

特技の欄はinluding language skills と書いてあったので、大学時代に取っていた第三外国語や選択授業で受講していた外国語のことも書いておきました。

ちなみにディズニーワールドは世界中からゲストがやってくるので、英語以外にも習っていたスペイン語・韓国語を使うチャンスに恵まれました。

特にスペイン語はよく使いますが、スペイン語圏の方は英語が堪能な方が多い印象だったので、個人的に始めるのに1番オススメなのはブラジル人が公用語として話す、ポルトガル語です。

英語・日本語以外でゲストのご案内が出来るキャストはネームタグに言語名がプリントされて“この言語も話せますよ”ということがゲストにわかるようになっています。

(ちなみに日本人キャストは全員“日本語”とネームタグに記されています)

先輩ではイタリア語・スペイン語のネームタグを取得している人がいて、

中にはフロリダ滞在中にスペイン語を話せる友達に言語を習い、

言語テストを受けてネームタグに第3言語をプリントしてもらった人もいます。

英語以外の言語も話せる方は、是非チャレンジしてみてくださいね。

問題はCover Letter

海外での就労経験ゼロの私はCover Letterっていったい…？

という状態から書き始めました。

Cover Letter (=カバーレター)とは海外で英文履歴書に添付する書類で、志望動機・自己PRなどを書くものです。

ちなみにディズニーからのメッセージにも

“Your Resume/Curriculum should include a summary of your skills, education and work experience. The Cover Letter (Motivational Letter) should explain the reason(s) why you would like to be considered for this program, and why you feel you would be a strong candidate. Indicate how this experience relates to your field of studies and/or to your future career goals.“

といった内容が書いてありました。

つまり、一次選考で書いたエッセイの英語版のようなものですね。

ただし、このカバーレター、いくつか決まった書き方があるようで…　

なかなかハードルの高いものだったのですが、

このカバーレターについてのメッセージが来たのは提出期限まで一週間！という状態。

そこで、わからないことは現地の人に聞こう！と、アメリカ人の留学関係の仕事をしている知人に助けを求めました。

すると、参考までに…とこんなサイトを紹介してくれました。

そして相談に乗ってくれた知人はわざわざカバーレターのテンプレートまで作って送ってくれました…！涙

私はこのテンプレートに本当に助けられました…。

この知人には今でも本当に感謝しています。

Cover Letter Template

Salutation

Dear [insert name of hiring manager],

Body

First paragraph: Mention the job you’re applying for and where you found the job listing.

Middle paragraphs: Discuss your qualifications. These paragraphs should be specifically tailored to requirements posted in the job listing. You might also consider including why this specific company interested you in the first place. Limit this section to two to three paragraphs.

Final paragraph: Discuss the next steps. If you are going to follow up in one to two weeks, mention a specific date. If you would prefer to leave the ball in their court, say that you look forward to discussing your qualifications further. Also provide your email address and phone number. Don’t forget to thank them for their time.

I’m applying for the Disney International Programs advertised on the Mitsukoshi CR program.

Since graduating from university, I’ve been working full-time as a　(職名) for a company that specializes in (会社の行っている事業). Specifically, I’ve been the (仕事のポジションと内容). In this job, I have received the (仕事上で表彰されたもの). I believe I have demonstrated that my(自分のスキル) skills can be useful for creating the services.
